A 1967 Corvette COPO commissioned by GM designer Bill Mitchell is up for auction
A one-of-a-kind 1967 Chevrolet Corvette COPO, specially ordered by General Motors' head of design Bill Mitchell for his wife Marianne, will be offered at Russo & Steele's Scottsdale auction in January.
Mitchell is known for his styling of the second-generation Corvette with its distinctive Hideaway headlights, and he acquired this final-year model as a Central Office Production Order.
The Corvette was painted ermine white with red stingers, red rally wheels, and a red interior. The history of this convertible is well known and accepted by the Corvette community, Russo and Steel states in its catalog description, and includes the original "tank seat," protection plate, Bill Mitchells name on the Factory Order Sheet, and other well-documented items. In addition, Corvette guru Zora Arkes Duntov's name is signed in the notebook.
According to the auction house, the car underwent a complete restoration to original in 1992 and was the first recipient of the Bloomington Gold Historic Award in June 2001.
The Corvette is powered by an original 427cid V8, 2-speed automatic transmission, and side exhaust.
Russo and Steel will hold its 20th annual Scottsdale auction at Scottsdale Road and Loop 101 from January 15-19. For more information, see the auction website.
