The Z432R is one of about 30 built for racing with lightweight body panels that are 0.2 mm thinner than stock, a composite hood, and acrylic side and rear windows, and is therefore more than 220 pounds lighter than the dealer-sold version It is also one of about 30 built for racing, with side and rear windows. It also has a special 26.4-gallon fuel tank for long-distance racing. [According to the auction house description, "The engine is basically the same as the Z432. However... . tuned as a race base car, the air cleaner has been removed and the carburetor funnels are uncovered.
"Equipment such as radios and heaters have been removed, and the interior has been simplified. Bucket seats have replaced the reclining seats. All that is missing is a roll cage, a very spartan setup that looks like it could be raced."
Another 1970 Fairlady Z, with a Z432 but non-R, sold for $147,805 at the same auction, although it was equipped with the first 2.0-liter S20 "Sport" engine, of which there were only 419 available.
The high bidder at this auction was a 1987 Ferrari F187 Formula 1 racing car for over $1.71 million; a 2006 Porsche Carrera GT for $499,342; and a 1973 Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R for $429,434, 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series 3 sold for $409,460. Other bids included a 1990 Ferrari Testarossa for $110,944 and a pair of Ferrari F40 seats for $20,700.
BH Auction, which stands for Best Heritage Japan Inc. is a Tokyo-based company established in 2017 that not only conducts collector car auctions, but also import/export sales and event planning and management. The auction was held at the Tokyo warehouse Terada.
