2024 BMW iX2 spy video
BMW is working on a redesign of its X2 compact crossover, this time with the iX2 electric vehicle.
Prototypes of the gasoline-powered X2 have been spotted for over a year, but this is the first time we have seen a test vehicle of the iX2 electric car.
BMW confirmed plans for the iX2 in March, and the lack of engine noise in this fresh spy video prototype confirms that engineers are testing an electric version of the upcoming second-generation X2 here.
The iX2 news is not a big surprise, as the redesigned X2 is closely related to the redesigned X1, which was announced in 2023 and includes its own electric option, the iX1. These vehicles use BMW Group's FAAR platform, designed for compact cars and crossovers, and can support gas, plug-in hybrid, and electric powertrains. [i.e., a 64.7 kwh battery and a 308 hp dual-motor powertrain. A single motor may eventually be available.
BMW estimates the iX1's range at 250 miles, and buyers of the iX2 can expect the same.
BMW has not confirmed plans to sell either the iX1 or iX2 in the United States.
The redesigned X2 is expected to be unveiled later this year, most likely as a 2024 model, but possibly as a 2025 model. iX2 will debut along with a gas-powered model.
