2025 Audi RS 3 Sportback Spy Shots
Audi is developing an updated version of the RS 3 Sportback, a high-performance hatch sold outside the US, as evidenced by prototypes spotted in the wild.
The sighting is not a surprise as Audi is also testing a prototype of the regular A3 as well as the sporty S3.
The current A3 was introduced for the 2022 model year. The updated A3 is expected to be unveiled late this year or early next year, and we will see the car and its performance variant arrive in the US as a 2025 model, albeit in sedan body style only.
The prototype reveals new designs for the inside of the lights at both ends, a new grille, and new front and rear fascias. That this prototype is an RS version of the A3 Sportback is evident from the huge wheel and brake combination, lowered suspension, and the RS's signature oval exhaust tips.
Updates could also include cabin tweaks, including a larger screen for the infotainment system. The current maximum screen size is 12.3 inches.
It is unknown if any changes are planned in the powertrain department; the RS 3 currently boasts a 401 hp 2.5-liter turbo 5. Drive is provided to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The prototype has a yellow warning sticker, which is usually only placed on electrified vehicles, so it is possible that a mild hybrid system will be added in this update. [It is based on an updated version of Volkswagen Group's front-wheel drive MQB modular platform. Basically, it is twinned with the latest Volkswagen Golf, which is scheduled to be updated at the same time as the A3. A prototype of the updated Golf has also been put to the test.
