Rivian CEO Previews New Camping Mode that Automatically Levels Vehicles at Campsites

Rivian has added a new feature for camping and work site use. [This is called Camp Mode and will be available in the next Over-the-Air update for Rivian's R1T electric pickup truck and R1S SUV RJ Scaringe, Rivian's CEO, took to Twitter over the weekend to He previewed the contents of Camp Mode on Twitter over the weekend.

The centerpiece is the ability to automatically level the vehicle's suspension when parked on a slope. For those who like to stay in their cars, this means no more nights sleeping on a slope. The vehicle can be leveled in order to level the cooking table, something that can also be done with Rivian's sliding kitchen.

This mode can also adjust ambient settings, such as noise level, and turn off the display if, for example, one wants a quiet, dark atmosphere to sleep at night. It also has the ability to dial down the amount of energy the vehicle uses while stopped, helping to conserve battery power. Scaringe described this as "putting the vehicle into a deep sleep. There is also the ability to control the exterior lights in case you want to illuminate a specific area of the campground.

Rivian's vehicle has already impressed us so much that we awarded the R1T Motor Authority's Best Car To Buy 2022 award. However, the company continues to improve its vehicles with features like Camp Mode. In June, the company added a Pet Comfort feature, which allows drivers to control the vehicle's climate control while away from home, making it more comfortable for pets left behind for short stays.

Following price increases earlier this year, the Rivian R1T starts at $73,000 and the R1S at $78,000. These prices include a dual-motor all-wheel drive system and a standard battery with a range of approximately 260 miles.
