2024 Porsche 911 S/T Spy Shots and Video: The New Retro Sports Car is Here!

Porsche was spotted testing what appears to be the next addition in its growing series of retro Heritage Design models.

The series will begin in 2020 with the introduction of the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design and expand earlier this year with the 911 Sport Classic, both based on the current 992-generation 911. The next series is believed to be a modern take on the 911 2.5 S/T track car launched in 1971.

The prototype in the latest spy shots resembles the 911 GT3 Touring tester, but unique elements like the double-bubble roof, which Porsche also used on the 911 Sport Classic, and the new front fender vent design hidden under makeshift panels are present. Also, a small lip spoiler is attached to the standard integrated rear spoiler of the 911, and there is a round lettering on the engine cover similar to the "Porsche Heritage" engraving on the 911 Sport Classic.

The 911 Sport Classic is based on the 911 Turbo S, which is appropriate given that the original was a lightweight, track-focused model developed for customer racing, and the 911 GT3 Touring on which the modern 911 S/T is based. 911 S/T was introduced in late 1971 and sold only in limited numbers.

Also, while the 911 Sport Classics received significant mechanical improvements over those derived from the 911 Turbo S, the 911 S/T is not expected to receive similar improvements. In other words, the 911 GT3 Touring's 4.0-liter flat-six and engine's normal 502 horsepower will likely be retained; the 911 GT3 Touring is available with a choice of a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic or a 6-speed manual, and the 911 S/T will retain its retro positioning and have a manual only may be offered.

Debut is expected in early 2023. Shortly thereafter, Porsche is expected to introduce another model in the Heritage Design series. Reports from last year suggest that this addition will be a modernized version of the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 Homologation Special and could be based on the upcoming 911 GT3 RS. Stay tuned.
