Spy shots of the 2023 Lamborghini Aventador successor: the new Raging Bull has finally been spotted.

The first prototype of Lamborghini's successor to the Aventador has been spotted, revealing details of the production model. Earlier photos showed only a test mule.

The Aventador has been with us for more than a decade, and last summer Lamborghini presented the final evolution of the car in the form of the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae. The successor model is expected to go on sale in 2023, and is likely to be unveiled late this year or early next year.

In contrast to the relatively clean lines of the original Aventador, the successor appears to have a busier, almost brutal design. In particular, the taillights, with their Lamborghini Y motif, seem to have been influenced by the 2017 Terzo Millenio concept. The headlights, on the other hand, seem to adopt the split design seen on the Terzo Millennio.

The proportions are similar to the Aventador, especially the A-pillars and roofline, suggesting that Lamborghini is using the Aventador's carbon fiber tubes for its successor. Given the investment in an entirely new powertrain, this makes sense.

Power is known to come from a V-12-based plug-in hybrid system, and Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has acknowledged that the V-12 is the third new unit in Lamborghini history. Displacement may be lowered from the current 6.5-liter V-12, but it will be naturally aspirated to reduce emissions.

As for the hybrid element, Maurizio Reggiani, Lamborghini's head of research and development, said the main challenge will be to keep weight down. Even the lightest solution is expected to add several hundred pounds to the vehicle weight. Another issue is to take into account emission regulations, which in some countries and regions may require a minimum electric range.

The side intakes are huge, and the V-12 exhaust tips are mounted higher than on the Aventador. Peak power is expected to reach 800 hp, a significant jump over the Aventador, which has a maximum output of 769 hp in Ultima guise.

Aside from the powertrain, the car is expected to feature all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering, and active aerodynamic technology. According to the photographer, the prototype's rear wing is an active element.

We will bring you updates as development progresses.
