Spy shots of the 2024 Porsche Panamera: model change while keeping the internal combustion engine.

Porsche is testing a prototype of the Panamera, and according to Autocar, the prototype is not just an update, but for a redesigned model.

The current Panamera, the second generation, was introduced for the 2017 model year and updated for 2021. Given that the original Panamera stuck around for about seven years, the second-generation Panamera should be replaced by a redesigned model in 2024.

According to Autocar, the redesigned Panamera will also boast an updated powertrain, adhering to the MSB platform that debuted in the second-generation Panamera and underpins Bentley's Continental and Flying Spur models. The powertrain updates are said to focus on reducing overall emissions, extending range, and reducing recharging times for the plug-in hybrid powertrain, as well as the obvious increase in power.

Styling changes will also be made, but they will be subtle, as is usual for Porsche. In particular, the headlights are expected to be more square, a change that will also be used in the soon-to-be-unveiled Cayenne update. A new interior design is also planned.

An electric Panamera is not yet expected. That role is currently filled by the Taikan, which is a few inches shorter than the Panamera. Eventually, however, most Porsches will be electric. Porsche predicts that by 2030, more than 80% of its sales will be electric, with the remainder going to the 911, Porsche's last internal combustion engine.
